For all of us who like discussing.... here is a question. Saints can foresee future of an individual as well as the world. now it is only possible if the events are pre destined and fixed? Then where is the free will of an individual? If everything is a Leela, if everything is predestined to happen, then what is the crime of terrorists? A thought comes and the person who is so called terrorist in this Great stage called 'world' acts according to that thought and kills people who are destined to die anyhow.
Now, we all know and have heard from our scriptures, Enlightened masters that Time of death and mode of death is fixed for each soul. Now, if someone is destined to die in a bomb blast, then somebody has to execute that bomb blast, right?
Similarly, if someone is destined to be murdered and that is his/her mode of the death is predestined, then the killer has to enact that so that the first person gets killed? Then what is the fault of the killer? How is the karma theory justified if everything is a play?

hmm well, i have been asking this kinda question to many people.. now.. here are some of the answers i got.. Free will and Destiny:- Say destiny is to do higher studies... Free will the the choice of what higher studies one would do. Karma Theory:- well as far as i heard people describe it.. we dont suffer from Karma and its effects if its done as a duty[Dharma] like with dispassion and dont depend on the fruit of action. Now since most of the people dont follow their Swadharma we fall in to karma's trap. As they say Doing Nothing[inaction] also yields Karma. And about great rishis predicting something :- it would be a compared to a simple chemical reaction - by knowing the char of a element its reaction with such such compounds can be predicted. Great rishiis would be the master of nature and universe. So they know the equations quite well :). They know about us more than we know about ourselves. :P If i may throw a question.. why is there some thing called Karma in the first place..?

Divine Brothers, " Gahana Karm No Gati " - " The essence of Laws of Karma are deep and difficult to comprehend " . For the great sages it is difficult even to convey . Great Sages have always shown us the path but we have to walk and understand it ourselves. I would like to share my understanding or my version of Karma and being insrument to GOD and Freewill. I feel the concept of being an instrument to GOD is true at the stage when the Bhakt has become one with GOD and not at our level. The FREEWILL of BHAKT and what he chooses to do is not different from what GOD wants and hence the bhakt becomes instrument
of GOD. At our level it is our passions, complexes , half baked understandings, pre conceived notions , mental blocks that guide our "FREEWILL" . So the results of our KARMA has to be borne by us and what we do is not what GOD wants us to do. The killing of asuras by SHREE RAM was symbolic . HE changed their minds and there by their actions thus killing the asuras in them and making them manav. The terrorists executing the killings are brainwashed asuras. They have been made to believe in a wrong path by individuals sitting far and away. I dont believe that we not being at the TAJ on that day is part of our GOOD KARMA or the people who died in the hands of terrorist died due to BAD KARMA. The terrorist chose to believe in their brainwashers and acted on their instigation out of their own FREEWILL. They could have chosen not to believe in them. THE BRAINS behind the terrorist would reap results of their karmas in this life or next. The innocents who were killed by them will get a new life based on their karmas and the killers will get a new life based on their karmas. The jawans of the NSG who risked their lives and killed them would reap results of their karmas in this life or next. We should not try to make out the meanings of why a certain incident happened because there is no meaning to it.. Incidents happen due to FREEWILL of individuals. How that incident effects themselves or other individuals becomes part of their karma or other individuals karma. Kindly correct me where i am mistaken. Regards

Jai Gurudev! I think we need to go back to the root or source to understand the theory of Karma. So if we take this universe as a platform for play of consciousness in different forms, then in the beginning everything was Free Will.
God might have created this universe with certain laws/rules for living. Anyone is free to follow any path but each path has it's own consequences or fruits.
So God has given us intellect/memory/ego/mind for perception and understanding of this universe so that we follow certain path.
In this process, each individual started using/enjoying different paths and as a result building up his/her own karma and chain of karma. Unless each one of us nullify our karmas we can not go back to our source, that is the ground rule.
So I think we are caught in our karma's that we build up since the beginning of the time. Hence at any moment we have free will to act but results may depend on our destiny or sanchit karma. Please put some light on this process of birth and death. with regards,

Guruji says very beautifully, "see the past as destiny and the future as free will, then the present is a present (gift)" This discussion is endless. Like the gita says gahana karmano gati. The ways of karma are mysterious indeed. So is the solution not to think of karma. The problem comes when we use the knowledge of advaita in dvaita. That's why I find the knowledge points in the art of living courses so practical and usable. And when we utilise it, its all the highest knowledge valid at all levels, in day to day life as well as the spiritual aspects. More on this in the next comment

Sri Sri: Strange are the ways of Karma. The more you understand it, the more amazed you become. It brings people together and separates them. It causes some to be weak and some to be strong. It makes some rich and some poor. All the struggle in the world, whatever it may be, is the bondage of Karma. It cuts across all logic and reasoning. This understanding will lift you from getting stuck to the events or personalities and help you in your Journey to the Self.
Question: So a thief can say it is my karma to steal?
Answer: Then the police have the karma to catch him too! (Laughter)
Only human life has the ability to be free from Karma. And only a few thousands aim to be free from it. Only through Grace can the bondage of Karma be burnt. Performing actions cannot eliminate Karma. I got this mail today.. Thought i would post here :)

I guess you are right... :) I have been struggling to understand.. advaita in Dvaita.. Yah, Guruji Surely made some sense out of both. - Like opposite values are complementary - it means there are two values[dvaita]. but they are indeed one.. [advaita]

I think the answer is in Yoga Vasishta. I've read it just once (took me a whole year!! :-P), so all that is a bit vague and I don't remember where or how this is answered. But I'm sure it is in there somewhere. Hope I'll get it when I read it the next time. :-)
